Tour Highlights Include
The history and culture of Mungalla tour begins at the grand Mungalla Station homestead where we introduce you to Nywaigi Aboriginal culture. Here you can examine artefacts and try your hand at throwing a boomerang.
We then board the bus for a short trip to the original homestead site where we introduce you to James Cassady who was the first European settler on Mungalla in 1882. As you view the remnants of the old Mungalla homestead you will hear the pioneering stories of these first white settlers and view old photos of this historic site. Let your thoughts drift back in time and imagine how it was in its glory days of formal gardens, tennis courts and thoroughbred horses. Here you will also visit the grave of James Cassady and his son Frank.
We also explain the often brutal confrontation between European settlers and Nywaigi Aboriginal people and the role the Cassady family played in protecting our people.
We again board the bus to return to the homestead to experience the amazing Captive Lives exhibition. Two groups of indigenous people from this area were taken to America and Europe in the 1880s and 1890s to be exhibited at the Chigago World Fair, circuses and curiosity shows.
After the tour enjoy a chat with Nywaigi traditional owners.
Visit our gift shop - Authentic Aboriginal Art by local artists and souvenirs.
